My Story

How I found my passion for life and how you can find yours

MY STORY

Who am I?

Namaste, my name is Aditya J. Purohit. How I came to find myself on the yoga mat is something that still inspires me. I was exposed to meditation and spirituality from an early age on, as I grew up in a very religious family in India, and I feel I have been guided down this path ever since. I had learned some basic yoga practices in my home-town but never really considered going any deeper into it.
I came to Canada in 2012 with a dream of becoming a Clinical Pharmacist. I became the licensed pharmacist in Ontario in the year 2016, and have been working as a Pharmacist ever since.

My first encounter with Isha Yoga

Coming from a doctors’ family, I always wanted to help people live healthy and well, and I had always thought that medications are sure ways to bring health and wellness. For the first time, this robust belief system of mine faced a challenge when I developed nerve pain in my right leg. Initially, I tried to kill the pain by popping painkillers like Tylenol and Advil, and it helped me for some time, but then the pain got worse and worse to an extent where even by touching my toes to the floor would shoot-up severe unbearable pain. That was an alarming moment for me. I went to a couple of doctors, chiropractors, massage-therapists but, no one could really help me out in my condition.
As I was discussing my condition to my friends, one of them suggested me to try a Hatha Yoga practice called Surya Kriya. I had never heard about it, but he insisted on to at least give it a try. Considering his confidence, I signed up for the two days Surya Kriya workshop in Michigan, U.S.A. As I started practicing Surya Kriya daily, I began to experience something amazing within me. Well, of course, my nerve pain was completely gone within just a matter of 10 days of practicing SK, but to my amazement, I started getting mental stability and emotional clarity as I kept practicing it regularly. That got me really curious. How a simple 21-minute physical practice could bring so much mental peace, joy, and exuberance was beyond my logical and anatomical understanding of the human body and mind. From here, my quest to go deeper began in earnest.

I thrived for more

I signed up for other hatha yoga practices like Angamardana and Yogasanas. The more I dug deeper, the more curious I became. As I progressed with all these Hatha Yoga practices, I could literally see my body and mind changing the way I had never experienced before. I was living with much more joy and peace within myself; my relationships with the people around were getting stronger and more meaningful.

It was just another day.. but..something changed my life forever

Suddenly, one fine morning, I woke up with a thought in my mind – an idea of bringing this fantastic sacred science of Hatha Yoga to the world. At the pharmacy, I always witness people suffering from some or other kind of physical and mental illness, and all they seek is a permanent and reliable solution. Hence, from my own experience with Yoga, I was sure that I could offer them the solution they are seeking by teaching them these life-transforming tools, which have changed my whole life.
I decided to become the Hatha Yoga teacher and offer Hatha Yoga in its most authentic and organic form. So, I signed up for a six months intensive Hatha Yoga Teachers Training Program in 2018 offered by Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore. That 1750 hours of rigorous training reconstructed my whole being in the ways I couldn’t imagine. The training was not limited to teach just the physical aspect of Yoga called Asanas; it also incorporated other elements such as learning the human system with Yogic perspective, the impact of the food on the human body and mind; the effect of Mantras and music. I also learned powerful kriyas like Isha Kriya and a variety of meditations.

I am very much excited to share all I have learned on my journey with other souls who are embarking on their own voyage of self-exploration. Let’s create a community where being healthy doesn’t mean to be on fewer number of medications.
